Season’s Greetings to Everyone! I hope this Holiday is a blessed one for all!
I’m taking a little detour in this newsletter from what I had originally planned to blog about (Indie Artist Pt. 2) as other exciting developments have taken place. I am happy to report that songs off “Orion Rising” are getting some radio airplay. How this originally came about is rather interesting. Here’s the story...
The Power of Social Networking
While recruiting friends on Facebook, I came across a lady who I really didn’t know, but seemed to fit the demographic target for my music. She accepted my friend request and soon made a comment that she liked what she heard from the demos. Ok I thought... all going according to plan. Soon after, I posted a status saying that my stage cover act “Green•Eyed Soul” was heading down to perform in the Toledo area. This gal then told me to contact a fellow who broadcast a Smooth Jazz show down there. A day after we arrived in Perrysburg I looked this guy up. I gave him the name of the gal who referred me to him. He indeed knew her, as she has been an active listener to his show and shared the same last name. Well, I thought, perhaps they are related somehow. The next day he came to the hotel where we sat, had coffee, and chatted for over an hour. I gave him a CD to listen to in hopes that he’d like it and there would be something on “OR” he could play on air. It turns out he did like the CD and has since played several songs off the CD.
I’m sure this is a familiar story for many Indie artists, that we must take advantage of any opportunity that comes along. In this case, a lucky twist of fate. Not so uncommon I suppose. However, what makes this story interesting is that when I did ask him how he knew this gal, he said he really didn’t. You see, his show is interactive, where listeners can request songs and even chat with him as his show is on air. She was active in both requests and banter with the host. Alright... so I posed the question to her. “Well, he had the same last name and his first name is the same as my husband’s”. So.... let’s get this straight now...
She didn’t know him, he didn’t know her, I didn’t know her, I didn’t know him. And now he’s playing my music on his radio show. A somewhat bizarre tale with a happy ending!
So the big shout out of thank you! go to Lise Scott and Mike Scott. Tune in weekday mornings 6-10am to... mikescottjazzshow.com and listen live over the internet!
**This week (Dec 14-18) I will be the featured local artist on the new 99.1fm CKXS in Wallaceburg.
Each weekday around 3:40pm, host Jay Smith will be playing a song from “OR”. I’ll be doing an interview
on Friday to wrap up the week. Thanks Jay and Chris, and a special thank you to Beverley!
Thanks as always for supporting the music... and Happy Holidays! :-)
